Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority – Miscellaneous Projects 1990 – 2024

Washington Dulles International Airport

Project Narrative

Giuliani Associates has been active at Dulles Airport (IAD) since the early 1960’s.  In the early years of the firm, Giuliani Associates helped tenants with the design of their spaces.  Since then we have added engineering services and designed larger projects for the airport authority.  The scale of the projects ranges from studies to two hundred square foot coffee kiosks to the Silver Line Rail Yard located at Dulles Airport.  Giuliani Associates’ experience includes the emergency design/build rebuild of the Dulles Jet Center FBO.   Giuliani Associates has also been chosen when historic preservation matters.  The Z-Gates addition to the Saarinen designed main terminal included many challenges including nearly four billion dollars of adjacent construction projects.  This project required coordination with the APM tunnels, APM Main Terminal Station, South Finger reconstruction, Mobile Lounge Docks, and reviews by the State Historic Preservation Office.  There were height restrictions, depth restrictions, and tight aircraft ramp considerations with the proximity of the Mobile Lounge roadways.
