Northwest / TWA Unit Terminal, DCA, 1970
Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport
Project Narrative
Northwest Airlines and Trans World Airlines retained Giuliani Associates Architects to design a separate terminal for their operations at DCA. The new terminal and concourse is a poured in place concrete structure. The concourse included self-contained loading bridges designed around the DC-9 and 727 aircraft. The Terminal has ticket counters and bag claim devices on the same level and the concourse is a clear span rotunda providing an open vista of the airfield. Designers include Joseph C. Giuliani, FAIA and Mario di Valmarana (whose family owns the Palladian Villa Capra, La Rotonda).
